Understanding comics
I find this book very interesting. Previously, it never came to my mind that comics can contain so many art elements. Especially the use of borders. My previous understanding of it is that it’s only a way of exhibiting the comics in a certain sequence and help the reader keep the pace up with the author. While after reading this book, I came to realize that the sense of closure helps us to imagine all the possible movements because of the existence of the border. Even the width of the border has an effect on how we imagine the situation between borders and borders. It’s a way of inviting the reader’s brain to construct the whole story together and I have never seen this method used in other forms of art before, which makes comics so unique and attractive. Meanwhile, the use of time in the comic is outstanding as well. It misleads our brain to think all contents inside one box is one fixed time. While the fact turns out that even in one block, all the contents may have a certain sequence to happen. But all seems so natural for us to think that it happens at the same time, which is a trick I have never paid attention to or even realized before
