Johann Knechtel is a Research Scientist with the Design for Excellence Lab, headed by Prof Ozgur Sinanoglu, in the Division of Engineering, at the New York University Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Before joining NYU Abu Dhabi in 2016, Johann Knechtel was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, UAE, where he was also affiliated with the Twinlab on “3D Stacked Chips”, jointly hosted by Masdar Institute and TU Dresden, Germany.
Dr. Knechtel received the Dipl.-Ing. (M.Sc.) in Information Systems Engineering in 2010 and the Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D.) in Computer Engineering (summa cum lauda, with highest honors) in 2014, both from TU Dresden. From 2010 to 2014 he was a Research Associate and Scholar with the DFG Research Group on “Nano- and Biotechnologies for Packaging of Electronic Systems”, and a Ph.D. Student at the Institute of Electromechanical and Electronic Design, TU Dresden. In 2012 he was a Research Assistant with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, China, and in 2010 he was a Visiting Research Student with the University of Michigan, USA.
His research is focused on Electronic Design Automation, especially in the context of Emerging Technologies and Hardware Security. Dr. Knechtel is an active reviewer for Elsevier Integration, the VLSI journal, IEEE Trans. on Computers (TC), IEEE Trans. on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems (TCAD), ACM Trans. on Design Automation of Electronic Systems (TODAES), IEEE Trans. on Very Large Scale Integration Systems (TVLSI), and other journals, as well as for various conferences, e.g., ASPDAC, DAC, DATE, GLSVLSI, ICCAD, ISPD, MWSCAS, SLIP.
