Building on the Spring 2021 panel series on Global 1979, this event explores the transnational movements, translations, and engagements that had radicalized Iranian opponents to Pahlavi rule on the cusp of the revolution.  Political struggles in Latin America, East Asia, and the Arab World were all inspirations and laboratories for Iranian underground organizations to devise ideologies, strategies, and tactics to liberate Iranians and participate in international struggles.  In the process new geographies, fault lines, and debates unfolded that informed the post revolutionary era.  This panel of researchers share their rich and original research in ways that allow us to reconsider standard narratives about the revolution.
