Picturing Urban Modernity explores the role of cinema in shaping urban modernity in Tehran from the 1900s to 1930s. It investigates the ways in which the space of cinema and the national and international images that it projected configured the urban fabric of the city, giving rise to some districts that became centers of socialization, critical thinking, and entertainment for decades to come.
