CityTones

The CityTones project is a collaborative open-source repository administered by NYU Steinhardt and the University of Huddersfield. The repository consists of 360 audio/visual environmental recordings for both creative and academic purposes. This collection of urban and suburban soundscapes captured in ambisonics spatial audio format is available for sound designers and researchers to implement and analyze.

To participate to the repository please be ready to collect the following data alongside the recording:

  • Time and Weather conditions, temperature and humidity levels
  • GPS location
  • SPL average throughout the recording (LAeq)
  • 360° picture or video

The front of the microphone array should be preferably North-facing. Please make sure you are using a 48 kHz sample rate and 24-bit depth. Make sure recordings are devoid of any discernible conversations and processed to B-Format.
