Write 1-3 guiding questions that will be the start of your research. Then write a little bit about some possible research strategies for these questions. Include some different kinds of research (as we talked about in class).
The future of the library
After reading the two articles (Palfrey’s “Hacking Libraries” and Drabinski’s “Queering the Library”) write about one issue or question that future libraries will have to (or should) think about. I will forward some of these questions to Emily Drabinski who will be visiting our class on Tuesday.
Your creative paragraph
Post here a polished version of the description of the imagined library or book that you wrote about in class.
Private Libraries
Read the three essays for the week (Benjamin “Unpacking my Library,” Bhabha’s “Unpacking,” and then Manguel’s “Library as Imagination.”) Write about one or two new or interesting concepts that are introduced in these readings. We will discuss the posts on Tuesday.
The American Library
Find something in one of these two readings that might be used in the first essay: an example, a questions, or an issue. Briefly write about it here.
Ancient Libraries
After reading the Casson and the Battles, write about how one of the issues or themes that we have talked about in class can be discussed through the topic of ancient libraries.
Bobst Library
Pick one small location in the library and spend some time looking at it. Post a paragraph that analyzes and interprets that space. What does it reveal? What does it privilege or emphasize? Does it give you a way to talk about any of the themes we have discussed in class? Post a picture as well.
