The middle section of the character quite closely resembles the radical for eye 目, except with an extra line in between. This to me can be read as representing an additional eye, or as is common in some circles, to speak of one’s “third eye.” Opening one’s third eye is considered to be a step towards understanding higher truths, similar to how 真 represents how things REALLY are.
