This course introduces design and engineering students to the power of drawing as a fundamental tool for ideation, problem-solving, and innovation. Moving beyond technical drafting, students will explore both analog and digital drawing techniques that serve as direct pathways from imagination to implementation. By bridging artistic practice with engineering methodology, students will use visual thinking to generate, develop, and communicate ideas rapidly. Through hands-on exercises, students will engage in gestural sketching, conceptual visualization, spatial reasoning, and digital illustration techniques applicable to product design, service blueprinting, experience mapping, and experimental prototyping. A focus on leveraging drawing as an extension of the thinking process — a vital skill for working in increasingly complex and multidisciplinary environments — will be a core focus of the class.
