This course uses the notion of The Instrument as a model for thinking about interaction design. Instruments facilitate creative expression. They amplify gestures into experiences. They transform the imperceptible into the perceptible. Using this broad definition of instrumentation, students will take experimental instruments as inspiration, leveraging creative coding and physical computing methods to create multisensory interactive experiences. Units will explore physical computing, bio-sensing, machine learning, gestural interaction, interactive audio and video installation, data sonification and visualization, Max/MSP, and more.
