2D Animation in After Effects
Team: August Luhrs, Jenny Lin, Idit Barak
As I mentioned in my previous post we were all good to go, prepared tons of assets and I was super excited about jumping into the world of After Effects. turns out this multi layered program is a ton of work each blink of an eye and twitch of a face needs to be carefully planed and timed.
Looking back I think our plan was too ambitious for the amount of time we had to spend on it (one week).
we intended for a lot of nuances and small gestures, opening and closing of mouthes and eyes etc. for this to be achieved properly we would need so much more time than we had.
We did make a smart choice which was for the main part to stick to one background and work on it zooming in and out to create depth. We divided the characters between us each focusing on one.
I was happy to work on Ru Paul but felt I wasn’t able to breath as much life into the character as I intended or imagined I would be able to.
In addition I created an opening slide in photoshop following the esthetic of the show to allow the viewer an immediate recognition of the reference and worlds we were playing off.
The final result was successful in the sense that
1.I have learned a ton, I am excited to keep at it explore and get to know more about this software
2. We did manage to achieve a humorous/disturbing/relevant statement that has a distinct style and look.
3. There are some really nice moves and body manipulations in the video I was very happy with.
It is not easy viewing but then again that was the point, Enjoy..
