About the BA/MA Program
The College of Arts and Science (CAS) and the Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) offer NYU students the opportunity to earn both the BA degree and an MA degree in five years.
CAS students interested in the BA/MA program typically apply during their junior year, and begin by taking one graduate course each semester of their senior year, before transitioning to a final year of full-time MA enrollment.
In the graduate portion of the program, students can qualify for a substantial tuition discount, normally covering up to 50 percent of the tuition for the MA. For more information on the BA/MA program, click here.
Program Eligibility
Students in the College of Arts and Science (CAS) and Global Liberal Studies (GLS) may apply to the program once they have completed at least 48 credits toward the BA degree, but not more than 96 credits. The application must be made prior to the student’s final two semesters. Students must have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA, both cumulative and in History.
Program Application
Students complete a three-step CAS process prior to applying to a B.A./M.A. program. This process involves (1) an initial check on requirements, (2) completion of an academic planning form, and (3) meeting with a CAS BA/MA advisor. Once cleared to apply, you may begin your application. The deadline is normally in March. (Note: the BA/MA deadline differs from the general MA deadline.)
Application components:
- Online application form
- Personal statement
