While there are so many products that I can imagine hacking, one of the first ones that I thought would be cool was using the heating coils from a toaster oven as a prop in a live sound setting.
The world of live sound props has had a huge shift over the past 20, even 10 years. Artists like Tame Impala, Ariana Grande, Louis the Child and Gareth Emery’s Laserface have made rounds for their feats of live performance, including live, realtime visualizers, big props that make a watcher feel like they are transported, or fully timecode sets with lights and visuals that perfectly match the music playing.
This would be a weird foray into that. Rather than having the traditional lights and videos, the heat coils of the toaster ovens would heat up. If wired individually, all of the coils could light up individually, meaning there can be different brightness levels. In addition, the metal from the toaster oven itself could also have wires connected to it and heat up/cool down in addition to the coils as a sort of main piece.
This would not be anything special, but rather something new that has not been tried before or done before, and would be an interesting addition to the ever changing landscape of live sound.
