taylors talk
Taylor is without a doubt one of the coolest people I know. Since we first met, we instantly clicked over our backgrounds and our interests. We have spent countless hours between discord and zoom calls and have thousands of messages spanning the years we have worked together. Taylor is also super cool because of his work. As the metaverse and video game industry shift, the possibility for flexibility in expression are ever changing.
The term “Metaverse” has been a hot word over the past year, and Roblox has been able to push the boundaries of this concept since its inception in 2006. Currently, Roblox has the best implementation of the Metaverse in my eyes – in theory every game is able to be connected, and Roblox has been working on pushing that boundary by getting more and more special events; including concerts, brand integrations (some of which I’ve been fortunate enough to work on), and more. The one thing that stood out to me is the current limitations of the metaverse. Look at a company like Meta, what are they doing? The company, which already has a poor track record of managing people’s data, has spent billions of dollars pushing a game that no one plays. There are so many limitations of the metaverse, and Taylor brought up good ones. Who’s there to govern, what’s the future of what could happen, and if someone does something wrong in the metaverse who has the authority to stop them? As I continue in my professional career, I know that my industry will be connected to the metaverse sooner or later, so knowing what will happen by then will be fun to discover!
