Huawei, 5G, and Quantum Computers

Huawei and 5G

Speaking of Huawei, one of the most heated incidents over recent times is Huawei’s 5G technology and its threat towards the existing western system. During the past year, lots of restrictions were conducted to Huawei, including the ban on chip export to Huawei form the US, ban on the Google Suite license on Huawei phone, and also the ban on using Huawei’s 5G technology. According to the podcast, the reasons why 5G is so crucial are not only its higher speed, low latency, but also its core function which makes it possible for the massive machine to machine connections, for example, the IoT. Since 5G is so significant, each country would like to take part in the development of this technology. For the US and some European countries, the pop up of Huawei’s 5G technology makes them extremely uneasy – they are used to the world where 3G and 4G are all established by themselves. As a result, they tend to find as many reasons to decrease the use of Huawei’s technology and try to leave time for their domestic technology to develop. They then tried their best to restrict the development of Huawei, forbidding existing technical supply, commercial cooperation, and even arrest Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou. Huawei has moved the Western countries’ pieces of cake, causing their restriction and boycott.

However, on the other hand, the actions of the Western countries also recognize the power of Huawei, showing that China’s technology is now gradually taking the lead.

Quantum Computers

The discovery of physics can always lead to a new generation of life. The computers we use daily are all under Von Neumann system, in this system, computers works with bits – only 0 or 1. However, in the new generation, quantum computers would make it possible for computers to work beyond 0 and 1 – they can work with qubits. The recent years have seen the huge development in computer hardware, the computational ability of computers increases continuously. However, when the basic elements are reaching the size of atoms, the increase would finally stop. Quantum computers are them brought to solve this problem. In the future, when quantum computation combines cloud computers and the newest communication technology, it would be much easier for people to get access to information. And that, could be a really promising future.
