Daniel Hinerfeld

is Director of Content Partnerships at NRDC and Co-Founder of Rewrite the Future, an initiative to help Hollywood tell stories about the climate crisis. Daniel is an Emmy-winning filmmaker and award-winning journalist. He founded NRDC’s documentary unit, where his films include Sonic Sea, narrated by Rachel McAdams; Acid Test, narrated by Sigourney Weaver; Stories from the Gulf, narrated by Robert Redford; and Wild Things. Daniel previously worked at NPR as senior editor of the Tavis Smiley Show. At KCRW, Daniel produced Warren Olney’s daily news discussion program and co-created the nationally syndicated political analysis show,  Left, Right and Center. At KQED, Daniel covered southern California as a reporter for the statewide news program, The California Report. He has written for The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and Rolling Stone, among other publications. Between public radio stints, Daniel spent four years in Los Angeles City Hall as a senior deputy to then councilmember Mike Feuer, now L.A.’s city attorney. Daniel’s niece, Sophie Rose Hinerfeld, is a junior at NYU — Tisch.

As NRDC’s Director of Content Partnerships, Daniel was a keynote speaker at the 2020 Hollywood Climate Summit.

Daniel’s most recent film project is Sonic Sea. The film is about understanding and protecting the vast symphony of life in our waters. You can take action by taking a stand against ocean noise.
