Description
The Grey Art Museum, New York University’s fine arts museum, is looking for Visitor Services Assistants who can work Winter 2024. The position will begin January 3, 2025 and continue until January 18, 2025. There may be opportunity to continue in the Spring semester.
The gallery hours will be:
Tuesday: 11 am–6 pm
Wednesday: 11 am–8 pm
Thursday: 11 am–6 pm
Friday: 11 am–6 pm
Saturday: 11 am–5 pm
Applications from students with an active Federal Work Study award (part of your financial aid package) will be given preference.
Visitor Services Assistants (VSAs) at the museum welcome visitors, sell exhibition publications, and assist with monitoring gallery security. VSAs are the first face that visitors meet when coming to the gallery, so they must be friendly, approachable, and interested in our exhibitions.
Many visitors look to VSAs to answer questions about the artists, curators, and general museum policies. Front desk activities include answering the main phone line, which receives calls for the museum as well as the staff; therefore, a professional, friendly phone manner is required. In order to process credit card sales, VSAs will also be required complete a Payment Card Industry Security Awareness Education training module via NYU iLearn.
We’re looking for students interested in working in the arts who are punctual and dependable, and comfortable answering phones, handling publication sales, and performing general visitor services tasks. Applicants must be NYU-affiliated students. We prefer students with majors in Fine Arts or related arts programs, but candidates, both undergraduate and graduate, with any interest in the arts are welcome to apply. The rate of pay will be $17 for undergraduate students and $29 for graduate students.
Michèle Wong, Deputy Director, will supervise the position and an informal performance evaluation will be conducted at the end of the semester. We strongly encourage communication throughout the semester.
How To Apply
When applying, please submit your resume and cover letter along with your hours of availability.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for student employment positions are $16-$18 per hour for undergraduate students and $29-$30 per hour for graduate students. The hourly rate for graduate employees is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 2110.
Federal Work Study is not required for this role, unless specifically stated within the job description. If you are eligible to receive Federal Work Study funds, your eligibility status will be disclosed to the hiring manager to ensure proper processing if hired.
