Job Title: Digital Archives and Curation Intern

Job Duration: 6-month tenure beginning November 4, 2024 through May 2, 2025; ~10-15 hours weekly 

Location: Remote (Washington, D.C. based)

Stipend: $7,500


The National Women’s History Museum is seeking a Digital Archives and Curation Intern to support our Women Writing History: A Coronavirus Journaling Project Five-year Commemoration Project debuting in March 2025. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital archiving, creative curation techniques, and visual storytelling while contributing to an important and timely initiative.

While our administrative offices are based in Washington, D.C., remote and fully virtual candidates are welcomed for this opportunity. The successful applicant must have access to a reliable internet connection.

Position Summary:
The Digital Archives and Curation Intern will play a pivotal role in supporting the National Women’s History Museum’s Women Writing History: A Coronavirus Journaling Project Five-year Commemoration debuting in March 2025. This internship offers hands-on experience in digital archiving, creative curation, and visual storytelling. The intern will assist with managing digital assets, ensuring metadata accuracy, conducting research, developing engaging digital narratives, and supporting audience engagement efforts. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a meaningful initiative that captures and celebrates diverse women’s voices during a historic moment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Digital Archiving – Assist in digitally archiving remaining stories and media related to the Museum’s rapid collection Women Writing History: A Coronavirus Journaling Project for inclusion on the special initiative’s microsite; help manage digital assets and ensure metadata accuracy and consistency
  2. Research – Research and compile both digital and physical content that reflects diverse experiences and perspectives
  3. Curation – Work collaboratively to develop a creative vision for compelling and engaging digital narratives for the initiative’s microsite
  4. Audience Engagement – Correspond with project participants; Support audience engagement by drafting social media content and suggesting programming and/or outreach via other readily accessible digital media platforms
  5. Evaluation and Reflection – Evaluate, reflect, and provide a written report or presentation on qualitative and quantitative data collected from the 5-year commemoration highlight in March 2025; Provide personal reflections on creative involvement in implementation of commemorative project.

 

Qualifications:

  • Current student or recent graduate in museum studies, digital humanities, public history, or a related field
  • Strong research, writing, and organizational skills
  • Interest in digital storytelling and community engagement
  • Experience with digital curation tools and platforms is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of, or interest in, women’s history and a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in managing projects, research, and evaluation.
