Forman Art Collection Registrar

The Forman Family Office seeks an experienced Registrar who is passionate about art to join its family office team. The Registrar will report to the principals and the president and be responsible for all aspects of art collection management, ensuring its safekeeping, cataloguing and administrative oversight.

Responsibilities:

· Maintain extensive and meticulous inventory records by location as well as records of art purchased, sold, shipped, received, consigned and loaned

· Prepare and manage loan and consignment contracts with museums and galleries

· Obtain and evaluate condition reports for incoming and outgoing works of art

· Coordinate artwork storage including museum quality packing, on-site evaluations and overall relationship management

· Coordinate and attend all movements of art to ensure its safekeeping from nail-to-nail

· Anticipate problems and implement solutions regarding conservation

· Manage insurance coverage including necessary appraisals, reconciliation of fair values to the insurance record and advocating for restoration or recovery in the event of a loss claim

· Travel to art fairs and gallery exhibitions as needed

· Manage all aspects of the collection with fiscal accountability and prudence

· Implement physical security measures and loss-prevention commensurate with the risk

·Assist finance team with data required for sales tax filings

· Continuously develop, document and implement workflow process improvements

· The principal location for this role is in Philadelphia, however regional travel will be required. Depending on individual circumstances, a hybrid work arrangement may be acceptable in so far as a New York to Philadelphia, live-work arrangement is in service to the Collection.

Technical Qualifications: 

· Proficiency in MS Office and Art Binder collection management system.

· Experience with art contracts (e.g., purchase, sale, consignment, loan)

· Knowledge of registrar best practices and procedures, fine art handling and packing, condition reporting, conservation and framing.

Educational Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in art history or related field preferred

· Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a registrar position at a gallery, museum or auction house
