POSITION SUMMARY

The Grants Manager/Development Associate is responsible for identifying, developing, writing, and submitting grant proposals and funding requests, as well as reporting requirements with grant-making organizations, including government, corporate, and individual funding sources. The annual goal will vary based on priorities but averages $500K – $750 annually. As a member of the Development team, the Grants Manager/Development Associate works closely with the Executive Director, Deputy Director and the Board of Trustees’ Development Committee to advance the Biggs’ institutional goals for fundraising. Specifically, the Grants Manager/Development Associate is responsible for the grant management process, including research, writing, submission, monitoring and reporting. Additionally, the Grants Manager/Development Associate provides project management support for institutional development projects, including two annual fund drives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Research and identify sources of support and proactively seek new
  • Initiate and maintain strong relationships between the Museum and grant- making organizations.
  • Work with curators and other Museum staff to create project proposals, budgets, and other materials in support of the organization’s funding requests as aligned with the criteria of funding
  • Research, write, prepare, and submit grant proposals and applications for funding Museum
  • Serve as the administrator for grants, ensuring that grant award stipulations are met, and accurate and timely reports are made to all funding sources that require them.
  • Manage stewardship of grantors, including acknowledgment and recognition such as donor acknowledgment in credit lines, logo placement, press releases,
  • Utilize donor database and prospect management system to track pending requests, maintain donor profiles, and record proposal
  • Maintain the grants management calendar and prepare for bi-weekly internal grants management
  • Assist the Deputy Director with fundraising efforts and development

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Minimum of three years’ comprehensive experience in a non-profit development operation, preferably in an art museum or cultural institution in the Mid-Atlantic
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing and reporting for both government and private
  • Up-to-date knowledge of corporate, foundation and government grant making sources

WORK SCHEDULE AND LOCATION

The standard work schedule is Monday – Friday from 9 AM – 5 PM with an hour lunch. The nature of this role requires flexibility with the ability to adjust on short notice. While 35 hours per week is the norm, additional work hours may be necessary to meet the requirements of this job position, which could encompass evening hours and weekend work. The responsibilities and required interactions of this position are not conducive to virtual work arrangements.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/SENSORY DEMANDS

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Grants Manager/Development Associate encounters while performing the essential functions of the role:

Climate controlled art museum with display galleries, standard offices, museum shop, and other non-public spaces. Work is performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors at the museum, however there will be occasions where work is performed outside the museum in public spaces such as restaurants and event venues plus private homes, offices and meeting rooms.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to receive oral and written instructions in English and to clearly communicate in English in person, over the telephone, through email and through other electronic means. The employee is required to move about their work area, between galleries and storage areas, ascend and descend stairs; and stand and/or sit for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to lift, drag and/or move up to 15 pounds unassisted. The employee is required to identify, observe, and assess visually and comply with Museum health and safety-related protocols.
