Summer 2024 Educational Programming Intern at The Hendrick I. Lott House

Job Title: Educational Programming Intern

Location: Brooklyn, NY


The Hendrick I. Lott House in Brooklyn, is a Historic House Trust property in the process of developing into a historic house museum. During the time leading to the highly anticipated Capital Project renovation, the Lott House strives to serve the surrounding community by offering relevant educational programming, events, and exhibitions on the exterior of the house, while simultaneously broadening city-wide exposure of the house and its mission ahead of launching as a Historic House Museum. The Lott House is currently seeking an education intern to be a part of this exciting journey! 

Duration: June 2024 – August 2024 (10-week commitment)
Compensation: $1,500, 10 hours per week. A hybrid schedule with some on-site work is required.

Position Summary: The Education Intern will develop and strengthen the Hendrick I. Lott House’s education outreach efforts. The Intern will work closely with the Executive Director to research, develop, and support education programming at the historic Farmhouse. The Education Intern will have the ability to be self-directed while gaining experience working in a small historic house museum and working cross-functionally with multiple departments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with research, development, and implementation of school programs

  • Assist with designing and preparing pre and post-visit materials for upcoming programs

  • Assisting in day-to-day departmental operations

  • Conducting collections-based research as related to departmental needs

  • Opportunity to assist in additional programs and projects, to be determined based on intern interest and availability

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a graduate program in history, museum studies, public history, or a related field

  • Strong research and writing skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude

  • The ability to work independently

  • Possess strong written communication and organizational skills

  • Strong project management skills with a high level or organization and attention to detail

  • Ability and willingness to travel to Marine Park for on-site hours
