THE POSITION

This is a project-based independent contractor position for approximately 14-18 hours per week over a period of four months (March-June, 2024). There is the opportunity to renew the contract for another four months, for Fall 2024 (September-December, 2024).

The Development & Event Coordinator is a project-based role focused on the planning of More Art’s 20th Anniversary Gala which is being presented in June, 2024. The contractor will help More Art produce the gala, focusing on event design, promotion, and planning, as well as donor cultivation and relationship management. 

There is the opportunity to renew the contract later in the year for a further four months (September-December), to focus on other specific Development-based projects, including on our annual online fundraising campaign, end of year cultivation event, and donor relationship management. 

The contractor should have a collaborative nature, with great organizational and writing skills, self-motivation and the ability to multitask. Familiarity with arts activism, social practice art, and community-based art are a plus since a specialized focus for this role will be on cultivating engagement with various audiences, from artists to large donors. The role requires an open, caring, and hospitable disposition, as well as the ability to set boundaries. The contractor must have advanced computer and digital skills. 

  • Manage hospitality and event logistics for the 20th Anniversary gala including managing guest lists, sourcing catering, food/beverage, vendors, and staffing. Develop and track event-based budgets.
  • Conduct sponsor and in-kind donation prospect research and outreach. 
  • Track and implement activity milestones and deadlines for gala communications, event planning, and donor management.
  • Draft text for promotion, newsletter copy, invitations, and audience/donor correspondence..
  • Organize benefit ticket sales and limited editions. 
  • Develop supplemental materials (video scripts, slideshows, printed matter, brochures, flyers) – Note: graphic design skills are a plus, but not required. Knowledge of powerpoint, google docs, etc. are required for collaboration with the Community Engagement Coordinator.
  • Track and manage follow up and communications with gala vendors, donors, sponsors, and stakeholders. 
  • Technical logistics: 
  • Manage audio visual and technology components needed for the gala.
  • Research, setup, and manage digital fundraising and platforms (eg. Ticket sales platform)

Engages with: Executive Director, Associate Curator, Director of Operations, Community Engagement Coordinator.

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least two years experience in non-profit arts programming, development and/or art management outside of internships.
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong digital skills, proficient in communications and virtual platforms, and technical/digital knowledge in general (eg. Mailchimp, Zoom, Google Docs).
  • Experience creating, managing, and running events
  • Competency for budgeting and reporting
  • Knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign are a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work evenings.
  • Excellent skills in project management.

LOGISTICS, CULTURE and SALARY

This is an independent contractor position for approximately 14-18 hours per week at $25-$30 per hour. 

The contract covers a period of four months (March-June, 2024). There is the opportunity to renew the contract for another four months, for Fall 2024 (September-December, 2024).

Start date mid-March 2024.

The contractor may work virtually with occasional in-person meetings at our office in Chelsea or site visits around NYC. Working hours are flexible and can be set by the contractor according to their availability. Must be available for occasional meetings Mon-Fri, and attending public events which sometimes occur on evenings and weekends. Candidates should be located within the five boroughs or within commuting distance of NYC.
