Position Overview
New Museum is seeking skilled professionals for the position of On-Call Registrar. The successful candidate will work independently under the guidance of New Museum registration and exhibitions staff, assisting as needed on all phases of the installation or de-installation of museum exhibitions as assigned.
Primary Tasks/Responsibilities:
• Execute detailed condition reports for exhibition loans. This includes written condition reports, as well as documentation of condition with digital images.
• Oversee and direct the handling of artworks, movement of crates, loading/offloading of delivery vehicles, and unpacking/packing of artworks.
• Work integrally with the installation crew on the gallery floors to ensure that extreme care is being taken with the handling of each object, and that the movement of crates and other activities taking place on the gallery floor is done so in an organized manner to mitigate all risk to artworks.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years’ experience working as a Registrar in a museum or gallery is required.
• Knowledge of contemporary art a plus.
• Proficient computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Dropbox preferred.
• Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities.
• Proactive approach, exercising independent judgment and initiative.
On-call, this position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 2110 UAW.
Salary Range:
$45.24 per hour
