Lott House Collections Intern
Schedule: 10-12 hours per week
Compensation: $1,500

Friends of the Lott House
Friends of the Lott House is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, incorporated
as the Hendrick I. Lott House Preservation Association, whose mission is to
preserve and interpret the history and material culture of the 1720 and 1800
Hendrick I. Lott farmhouse in Marine Park, Brooklyn. It aims to educate and
engage the public about this historic structure; the Lott family; the farm
community of enslaved, immigrant and native-born workers; and the history of
southern Brooklyn through interpretive programming.
Description & Responsibilities:
The intern will work to support the Lott House’s mission to preserve and interpret
the history and material culture of the 1720 and 1800 Hendrick I. Lott farmhouse
in Marine Park, Brooklyn.
FLH recently acquired 11 trunks from Catherine Lott, the daughter of John V.
Lott, who grew up in the farmhouse in the early 20th century. The Collections
Intern will work closely with the Collections Committee to accession and
catalogue the Catherine Lott Collection.
The Collections Intern must dedicate at least two days per week on-site at the
Lott House.
Other Responsibilities:
Complete the data entry of the objects from the C. Lott Collection into the
collections management database – CatalogIt.
Pack the C. Lott Collection to assist with the long-term care of the collection in
relation to the upcoming Interior Capital Project.
Create a finding aid for the C. Lott Collection.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a graduate program in
museum studies, public history, curatorial practices, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of, and experience with, current practices and
innovations in museum collections management is preferred.
The ability to work independently.
Possess strong written communications and organizational skills.
Strong project management skills with a high level or organization and
attention to detail.
