The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) is now accepting applications for the Spring 2024 Internship program! This is a 3-month paid internship.
About ISCP
The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) is a not-for-profit, residency-based contemporary art center for emerging to mid-career artists and curators from around the world. Founded in 1994, ISCP has hosted over 1,800 artists and curators from more than 85 countries. ISCP supports the creative advancement of artists and curators, and promotes cultural exchange through residencies, exhibitions and public programs. ISCP organizes innovative exhibitions, engaging public talks, and offsite projects, which are free and open all, and offer the ISCP connects residents to a diverse global network of colleagues and offers the opportunity to build lifelong international networks. ISCP alumni include prominent artists such as Kevin Beasley, Elmgreen and Dragset, Claire Fontaine, Theaster Gates, Camille Henrot, Yeondoo Jung, Chi Wo Leung, Maider Lopez, Carsten Nicolai, Jacolby Satterwhite.
Responsibilities
ISCP interns engage in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of a not-for-profit arts organization and gain invaluable experience as they learn about arts administration within a studio filled building while being introduced to a vast network of international art professionals. All interns are invited to select monthly field trips and all public programs.
Internship Categories:
•Executive Intern: Interns focus on assisting the Executive Director with a wide variety of tasks, learning about nonporofit institutional management. Tasks include research, editing, correspondence, project development, neighborhood outreach, and scheduling. Individuals will work closely with the Executive Director of ISCP and provide support in various aspects of the organization’s operations, board meetings, and donor stewardship.
•Communications: Individuals interested in marketing, social media management and photography will excel in this internship. The intern works closely with the Communications Associate to assist in the development and execution of ISCP’s marketing and communications strategy. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to assisting with social media management and content creation, photographing artists, curators and public programs, creating promotional assets for ISCP’s programming, conducting press research for current and upcoming exhibitions, and maintaining the administration of the communications department. Photography experience is preferred but not required. Tuesdays afternoon availability is required.
•Fundraising – grants and campaigns: Fundraising is a skill that is useful for anyone interested in a future in arts administration and philanthropy in general. The intern builds research skills, assists in the development of proposals and reports to foundations and government funders. The intern also helps prepare materials and data in preparation for cultivation and prospecting. Strong writing and research skills are required. Experience with development-related duties is preferred.
•Operations: Individuals with an interest in arts administration will excel in this position. The intern will work closely with the Director of Finance and Operations to streamline all of the organization’s operations, gaining valuable insight into the inner workings of a New York City-based arts non-profit. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with financial projects and ISCP’s financial audit, facilitating communications with artists and curators in residency, sponsors, and donors, assisting with facility management coordination, maintaining ISCP’s donor database, and implementing new IT systems.
•Facilities: Applicants interested in art installation, fabrication, and art handling may consider this role. The facilities intern will learn about the physical upkeep of galleries and studio spaces, framing, packing, and shipping art; as well as assisting curators and artists in putting their exhibition plans into action. This can be a physically demanding job. Familiarity with basic hand tools like drills and saws is a plus.
Qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, multitasking, reliability, team player, Mac proficiency (Word and Excel), basic Creative Suite knowledge a plus, experience with database systems (Salesforce a plus), strong organizational skills, interest in non-profit arts administration and contemporary art. Duration
The Spring 2024 internship has a start date of January-February. All internships require a minimum commitment of 16 hours (2 days) per week both for a minimum of three months. ISCP regular office hours are Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm.
Compensation
ISCP offers a monthly stipend of $400. ISCP internships can provide a foundation in a variety of skills, and offer experience and contacts for future careers in the following professions: curator, artist, and arts administrator. Interns are invited to be a part of ISCP’s community by attending field trips, staff meetings and public events.
