Position Title: 2024 Spring School Programs Intern

Position Summary:

The School Programs internship with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is designed to provide the intern with an understanding of all aspects of school and teacher programming. The intern will gain an understanding of museum education with a specific lens on K-12 audiences. Areas will include student tour development and facilitation, program administration and coordination, and curriculum research and development. The intern will work closely with museum education staff to provide on-site support for K-12 student and teacher programs. This opportunity is perfect for prospective interns who love interacting with people, have an interest in education, are looking to create fun and innovative programming and like to work in team environments.

Principle Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • The School Programs Intern will actively participate and perform the following duties:
  • Onsite logistics for summer school tours including greeting school buses, escorting groups inside the museum, explaining museum guidelines, supervising lunches, and providing directions for after lunch experiences.
  • Research of artworks to assist in curriculum development.
  • Research into arts integration models and practices to assist in program development.
  • Creation and facilitation of tours
  • Assist with and execution of Teacher Professional Development Programs
  • Gain a working knowledge of software and systems used by the museum with an emphasis on the Event Management System (EMS) and Asana

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Training and Traits:

  • College student, sophomore or above
  • Experience or interest in teaching in museums or formal and informal learning environments
  • Experience or interest in working with diverse audiences
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a team
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule
    • Weeknights and weekend availability
  • A background check is required
  • Must maintain confidentiality of all information

Schedule:

  • Months: January 22, 2024 – April 26, 2024
    • Undergraduate: 20 hours a week
    • Graduate: 25 hours a week
  • Weekly schedule to be arranged with direct Supervisor

Timeline:

Compensation

  • Undergraduate: $13.00 per hour
  • Graduate: $14.00 per hour

  • Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires work at a desk, utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time, good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching for filing, and physical stamina to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of at least three feet for file and materials storage as appropriate for the demands of the office. Visual acuity to review written materials is required for this job.
  • Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment and museum spaces. The noise level in the museum work environment is usually low to moderate.
  • If the intern’s personal equipment is used, the museum accepts no liability for any damage caused to said equipment while being used for museum purposes, nor loss or corruption of electronic files on devices.
