The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (“The Aldrich”) is seeking a Head of Events and Donor Engagement to oversee all internal and external events as well as donor engagement activities. This position plays a vital role as a member of the team that engages and interacts with new and prospective donors to deepen their relationship with the Museum. Founded in Ridgefield, Connecticut by fashion designer and art collector Larry Aldrich, The Aldrich was one of the first contemporary art museums in the country and today is one of the oldest. Known for its visionary exhibition program and artist-centric approach, the Museum presents first solo institutional shows, significant exhibitions of established artists, and thematic group exhibitions around timely social themes.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with the Director of Development plan and execute 2-3 major fundraising events a year, including the annual Gala, annual Aldrich Artists at the Table dinner, and biennial Aldrich Undercover art sale as well as additional on-site and off-site donor engagement events, activities, and travel.
  • Managing all aspects of internal events, including exhibition openings.
  • Brainstorming additional fundraising and stewardship events, including the annual fall fundraiser.
  • Soliciting gifts from individuals for general operating and program support.
  • Working closely with board and staff to meet and exceed fundraising goals.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with high-level Museum supporters and prospects.
  • Creating and following processes to maintain best operational practices for events and engagement activities.
  • Overseeing external rental requests and acting as on-site event planner.

The Head of Events and Donor Engagement must be able to work well with the Museum’s staff, Board of Trustees, and donor community, and be able to build a welcoming and positive environment for supporters.

Requirements and qualifications:

 

  • 3-5 years’ experience in event planning and logistics as well as dedicated experience working with donors
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple deadline-driven projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google products
  • Ability to work well with individuals, both in-person and on the phone/via email
  • Position requires evening and weekend work occasionally throughout the year
  • Experience with fundraising database a plus
  • Passion for contemporary art and culture
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
