(P/T, Temp) Archives Fellow at the Brooklyn Museum
Job Title: Archives Fellow
Job Status: Part-time, 10 month contract

Salary: $20/hr
Description
The primary role of this position will be to assist with processing archival collections to be transferred to offsite storage with the Archivist and Records Manager. Collections will likely include the Education Department and the Chief Curator’s Records.
The Brooklyn Museum is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States, and our Archives contain primary sources going all the way back to our founding in 1823 as the Brooklyn Apprentices’ Library. Today, this collection totals over 3,200 linear feet of materials that include correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, vertical files, ephemera, blueprints, negatives, slides, and video and sound recordings.
This is a part-time (three days per week) position for ten months.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in art history or field related to the Museum’s collection
- Desire to work in an archive; some experience preferred
- Introductory knowledge of ArchivesSpace and/or Microsoft Excel
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent research and comprehension skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to remain discreet and handle confidential information
- Ability to visually inspect work and surrounding physical areas
- Ability to carry out physical maneuvers that will include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and reaching
- Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds
- Ability to work in dusty and dirty environments
Preferred Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science preferred; students currently enrolled in a program are encouraged to apply
- Understanding of archival description standards including EAD and DACS
- Knowledge of current archival issues and trends
Responsibilities:
- Processing and/or inventorying designated archival collections for transfer to offsite storage
- Assist with communicating and coordinating the transfer of material to Archives and offsite storage with various Museum departments
- Assist with answering general questions from Museum staff regarding record keeping practices and procedures
- Assist with creating and updating finding aids in ArchivesSpace
- Other duties as assigned
