Overview:
The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) is seeking a dynamic Part-Time Museum Educator to lead group tours and provide engaging experiences for diverse audiences, including K-12, college, and adult groups. The Museum Educator will create and deliver programming rooted in the Chinese American experience, anti-bias education, critical thinking, and inquiry-based dialogue. Additionally, they may lead customized experiences for private groups, support family and educator programs, and participate in outreach events.
Position Details:
- Part-time role with 8.5 guaranteed hours per week, with the potential for additional hours.
- Initial pay rate of $20/hour for the first 3 months, increasing to $22/hour thereafter. Bilingual tours paid at $30/hour.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct virtual school programs and in-person guided gallery and walking tours for K-12, college, and adult audiences.
- Facilitate customized experiences, including hands-on activities and discussions, aligned with learning goals and curriculum.
- Tailor tour content for diverse groups, including those with special needs and English Language Learners.
- Manage gallery program supplies and materials.
- Contribute to educational resources and activities, such as guides, lesson plans, and blog posts.
- Assist with family festivals and other events.
- Lead offsite workshops and programs.
- Support marketing campaigns and community outreach.
- Participate in educator gatherings.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years’ experience working with K-12 students, ideally in educational or museum settings.
- Availability for 2-3 days per week, with occasional weekend availability.
- Proficiency in conducting Zoom meetings and webinars.
- Strong interest in museum education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Museum Studies, or related fields.
- Previous museum teaching experience.
- Experience with diverse groups and special needs.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Familiarity with learner-centered teaching strategies.
- Bilingual in Mandarin or Cantonese (highly preferred).
