(P/T) Graduate Assistant – Cataloguer, Department of Art History, NYU
Job Description
The NYU Department of Art History seeks a graduate student to serve as a cataloguer for the upcoming academic year. Cataloguers assist in maintaining the inventory of books and documents related to the department’s visual resource collection. A successful candidate for this position will be responsible for updating the department’s cataloging database system and assisting with the digitization of visual resources.
Prior experience with cataloging or data entry is preferred but not required. The Department of Art History team looks for candidates who are eager to learn, take initiative, and have a great attention to detail.
The hours for this position are flexible but will take place during our normal office hours, which are Monday – Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. We are looking for candidates who can dedicate at least 10 hours per week to this position.
Note: This position is for current NYU graduate students only. Undergraduate students are not eligible to apply.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Catalog image and resource entries in JSTOR Forum and Artstor
- Maintain inventory of books and documents related to the department’s visual resource collection
- Organize and scan documents, catalogs, books, and photographs
- Assist in the digitization and acquisition of visual resources needed for classroom instruction and research
Requirements
- Currently enrolled graduate student at NYU
- Must conduct themselves professionally at all times
- Must be punctual and a good communicator
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with Mac OS
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud
- Prior experience with data entry

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for student employment positions are $15-$17 per hour for undergraduate students and $28.25-$29 per hour for graduate students. The hourly rate for graduate employees is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 2110.
