Position Summary
The Director of Development is responsible for developing the fundraising strategy of the Hispanic Society Museum & Library (HSM&L) oversee the Annual Fund, Capital Campaign, Individual Giving as well as corporate, foundation, and government support. The Director will supervise two staff members and work closely with the Director of Special Events to create and execute strategies to meet revenue goals through events and fundraisers. The Director will work with the Board of Trustees to develop, implement, manage, and evaluate fundraising strategies and goals. The Director reports to the Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assess and prioritize current and future needs to build out the development infrastructure and chart a path for sustainable growth.
- Manage the HSM&L’s overall fundraising efforts for programs, operating budget and Capital Campaign.
- Work closely with the Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer as well as the Board of Trustees on development strategies and prospect cultivation.
- Identify, cultivate, and steward major gifts from individuals.
- Research prospects, create cultivation events, solicit funds, generate pledges, ensure cash is received against all pledges in a timely fashion and provide reporting on the use of the funds. Build and manage a portfolio of 100 current and prospective donors using the moves management cycle.
- Work closely with the Director of special events to generate awareness and funds – create and execute strategies to make revenue goals through sponsorship, table sales, and sales of individual tickets.
- Manage High-level donors and grow individual major gifts.
- Supervise membership program to increase new members and upgrade current members as well as increasing renewal rate of existing members.
- Prepare reports and briefings to identify progress against goals for the Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer, and the Board of Trustees.
- Work with the Business Office to ensure accuracy of gift/donation records and deposits; and comply with audit standards.

Compensation
Hispanic Society offers a generous benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage, a 403(b)-retirement plan, and numerous paid holidays. Minimum of $125,000.00 to a maximum of $150,000.00 per annum.

- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of fundraising experience, preferably in a NYC arts organization.
- Proven track record of developing and executing capital campaign and major giving plans.
- Experience contributing to an organization during a growth stage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English required
- Strong relationship-building skills.
- Experience working in a museum; experience working in the New York metropolitan area funding community is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Spanish
- Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge and Excel.
