Description
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) is looking for an experienced and dynamic Associate Director of Planned Giving to manage its Legacy Giving program. The ideal candidate will have verifiable professional experience in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a variety of planned gifts from individuals and families.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assessment of existing Legacy Giving Program
- In collaboration with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and Senior Director of Individual Giving, assess FAMSF’s existing Legacy Giving program; propose strategic updates based upon internal/external data analysis and emerging trends in planned giving; and implement necessary changes to the program
- Management of Legacy Giving Program
- Delivers Legacy Society benefits, communications, and stewardship
- Responds in a timely manner to planned gift inquiries
- Participates in donor events as assigned
- Assists with creating and managing the planned giving budget
- Adhere to professionalism and fundraising best practices as demonstrated by a donor-centered methodology.
- Handle other planned giving responsibilities as needed.
- Maintain strong and accurate records of activities and updated web pages
- Monitor, evaluate, and regularly report on progress and outcomes against agreed upon goals.
- Growth of Legacy Giving program
- Personally qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards planned gifts through personalized contact including phone calls, correspondence and personal visits with assigned donors according to moves management protocols.
- Leverages existing FAMSF channels (website, magazine, etc.) to advertise and grow program
- Collaborates with frontline fundraisers to provide planned giving expertise in support of planned giving opportunities from major gift prospects and donors.
- Prepare written materials such as visit strategies/briefings, correspondence, solicitations/proposals and pledge documents.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or equivalent in verifiable work history and experience
Work Experience: At least five years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising or arts administration with at least three years of direct fundraising experience, preferably with direct planned giving solicitation. Proven fundraising results in a combination of these areas: major gifts, planned gifts; gifts of art or objects
Skills and Abilities:
- High integrity and professionalism, respecting the confidential nature of donor information
- Demonstrated success in personal, hands-on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors, evidenced by the successful achievement of significant planned gifts
- Strong organizational and research skills, coupled with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, to drive the strategic development of a planned giving portfolio
- Results oriented with ability to focus on and meet deadlines and goals.
- Strong problem solving and negotiating skills
- Superior interpersonal skills, including ability to listen, observe and interact well with diverse individuals and groups
- Excellent, persuasive, and diplomatic communicator – in person, over the phone, and in writing – with the ability to prepare proposals, briefing materials, reports, and correspondence
- Working knowledge/basic understanding of planned giving vehicles, current trends in philanthropy and estate / financial planning for individuals, including tax implications of charitable giving
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve Museums’ goals
- Self-starter, ability to work independently
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must have knowledge of fundraising (preferably Salesforce) software
- Knowledge of Bay Area audience and philanthropic community is desirable
- Interest in art and art history preferred
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed for events or deadlines
The benefits package includes medical, dental, vision and 401(k), and paid time off. Hybrid work schedule available for this role.
The annual salary range for this position is $105,000-115,000. The final offer amount within this range will be based on experience and internal equity.
