About the Director of Prospect Management

The Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Advancement seeks an experienced candidate to fill the role of the Director of Prospect Management who serves as functional lead for the pan-institutional prospect management program. This position designs and implements the tools necessary to maintain an informative prospect management system that relates directly to goals and targets. The incumbent partners with advancement leads across the Institution to set strategies that maximize portfolio potential, pipeline outcomes, and fundraising results. The Director develops and applies metrics to analyze giving capacity and convert data into comprehensive assessments to make informed recommendations about the fundraising process, goals and anticipated outcomes. The incumbent supervises a team of prospect management analysts.

A minimum of five-years of experience in fundraising prospect management and a bachelor’s degree are required. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong background in prospect management processes, strategies, and knowledge. Qualified applicants will successfully demonstrate strong communications skills, an ability to successfully manage multiple deadlines, superior organization skills, and a demonstrated ability to work independently. The incumbent will be self-motivated and detail-oriented, accurate and professional always; must be precise, diplomatic, dedicated, and mature as well as flexible and able to work well under pressure. Experience in complex higher education or a large cultural or environmental organization is preferred.

About the Office of Advancement and Smithsonian Institution

The Office of Advancement oversees and guides the fundraising efforts of the entire Smithsonian and is home to the central development organization for the Institution. In addition to raising significant support for a variety of Smithsonian initiatives, the Office of Advancement provides support services to advancement offices across the Institution. The office engages with staff throughout the Smithsonian in accomplishing their goals.

The Office of Advancement supports flexible work schedules and promotes hybrid telework. Employees are required to work onsite in our Washington, DC office at least two days per week.
