Reporting to the Chief Exhibitions and Collection Officer, the Head Registrar, Exhibitions, will oversee the implementation of all exhibition registration as well as management of the Exhibition Registration staff. The Head Registrar, Exhibitions,will manage exhibition assembly and dispersal, the oversight of budgets, loan contracts, fine arts insurance and indemnity, scheduling and care of borrowed objects and objects from the Permanent Collection on exhibition.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and assign exhibition registrars;
- Develop and oversee exhibition budgets;
- Coordinate logistics of exhibition installations and troubleshoot issues that arise, working with Exhibition Coordinators as well as outside parties such as artists and lenders;
- Act as lead registrar on assigned exhibitions and traveling exhibitions
- Review and update standard practices, policies, and best care procedures regarding registration of exhibitions; encourage continued collaboration among staff
- Assist the Chief Exhibitions and Collection Officer in developing overall museum exhibition schedule including opening and closing dates of shows, installations and special project activity
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
- 7-10 years of experience in museum registration and general practices; experience with budgets and contracts helpful
- TMS, Adobe Photoshop, general computer and office skills; knowledge of museum standards and practices, particularly exhibition and collection management
- Some weekend and evening work required; must be willing to travel as needed
