Job Description:

Be part of a creative team of content developers, graphic designers, print production artists, fabricators, and designers to maximize memorable moments in the guest experience. With accessibility, aesthetic appeal, durability, traffic flow, and safety in mind you will help create a space where guests make memories, and want to visit the museum to be inspired and curious.

These 3D designs will enhance and contribute to all audience experiences of the museum’s permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as environmental public spaces onsite and offsite. This position collaboratively creates or develops exhibitions and/or projects with both internal and external stakeholders.

This position requires a creative mindset with heart – and a candidate that will work in a collaborative, fun, dynamic, work environment where ideas are generated from the community for the audience.

This position will be responsible for leading and organizing projects with teams.

Work Schedule: Onsite 5 days a week for 3 months, with opportunity for 1 day remote per week after successful onboarding.

Essential Duties:

Produces, leads, and coordinates 3-D exhibit design

  • Produces accurate and complete floorplans, elevations, and detail design documents for all phases of design development from conceptual through final design with visitor experience and diversity, equity, access, and inclusion at the forefront.
  • Provides accurate timelines and budget estimates to support planning.
  • Oversees fabrication, finishing, and placement of exhibit components to ensure conformity to plans, including guest values, and museum standards. In addition, research and purchase supplies and materials for use in exhibitions.

Project and production management

  • Selects, hires, and manages the work of external vendors and contract labor.
  • Coordinates, communicates, and facilitates internal and external design and fabrication processes within the department and throughout the museum.

Builds, installs, and maintains temporary and permanent exhibits, and exhibit components

  • Installs and maintains permanent and temporary exhibits, which may include artifact handling.
  • Assists or works independently in the fabrication and maintenance of exhibits and exhibit products.

Portfolio: Shown experience with producing and working with CAD files. Examples of projects and work completed.

Minimum qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in exhibit, industrial, or architectural design or demonstrated equivalent experience required.
  • 3 years’ experience in developing, designing, and documenting exhibits or equivalent required.
  • Intermediate proficiency with CAD, Adobe Suite, 3D Modeling Software, and web enabled applications required.

Working Conditions:

  • Office: Moderate noise (open business office with computers, printers, traffic, conversations, laughter, meetings); work in fabrication shop, exhibit galleries and public spaces.
  • Equipment: Computer, presses, laminators, printers, and other production equipment, general office equipment, fabrication/installation tools and materials, ladders, high lift.
  • Machinery use: High lift, scissor lift, forklift, ladders, power tools, moving and installation equipment.
  • Lifting requirements: Moves items weighing up to 50 pounds in workshop, galleries, and public spaces.
