Internship – Visitor Services – New-York Historical Society – Sept. 5
Visitor Services Interns
Working directly with the Director of Visitor Services, interns will assist in conducting a visitor data study to provide the museum with a better understanding of our growing audience’s demographics, behavior, and the exhibition elements to which they respond most strongly. Interns will be trained in and then utilize best practices for visitor observation and assessment including short survey, timing and tracking, and individual observation. Interns will also participate in data interpretation and provide feedback on fine-tuning and guiding the data collection process. The Visitor Services Internship is an excellent opportunity to learn firsthand about how people experience museums; how museums can use that information to better serve, educate, and inform their visitors; and to help shape the New-York Historical Society’s evolving Visitor Experience practices. Candidates should be enrolled in an Art History, History, and/or Museum Studies program with an interest in Visitor Experience. Interest and/or knowledge of statistics and data analysis is a plus. Candidates should also be enthusiastic about customer service and comfortable interacting with strangers in a “front line” environment.
This internship can be completed for credit.
