How You Will Contribute

The Coordinator of Adult Public Programs and Museum Educator contributes to learning opportunities (lectures, talks, drop-in artmaking, workshops, performances, and tours) for general adult learners around the permanent collection and special exhibitions. This work involves communication with curators, the audio-visual team, and other the departments across the organization and requires strong skills in collaboration, presentation, organization, and attention to detail. The Coordinator of Adult Public Programs and Museum Educator teaches in the galleries and virtually as overseen by the Manager. As a member of the Department of Public Programs, the role will participate in departmental brainstorming and assist on other projects, such as performances and festivals, as requested. This role works with staff across the museum and attends cross-departmental meetings to represent the work and needs of Adult Public Programs and contributes to the maintenance of departmental and museum reporting and recordkeeping.The Coordinator or Adult Public Programs and Museum Educator is inspired by helping adult learners connect with works of art; committed to highlighting diverse points of view in the interpretation of works of art and creating a welcoming experience for all participants; confident in working independently or taking direction; energized by working collaboratively with others around a shared purpose; and a strong communicator who is professional with colleagues and the public.

Specifically, you will:

  • Plan, develop, and staff a range of adult offers, both virtual and onsite, including: lectures, talk-based programs, artmaking, workshops, and other programs as needed (75%)
  • Teach and/or lead talk-based and artmaking programs for the adult public (25%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Your background and experience include:

  • A master’s degree in art history or related field, preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Experience working in a public facing role
  • Proven ability to work well with a variety of people in different capacities

Position And Compensation Details

  • The salary for this position is $48,000.
  • This position is full-time, exempt, and 35 hours per week.
  • This position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit.
  • This position reports to Manager of Adult Public Programs
  • Physical requirements:
    • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
    • Able to regularly set up, adjust, and operate a computer/keyboard and other office equipment used to generate work/transmit data
    • Able to remain stationary for up to seven hours
    • Able to move items up to 20 pounds
  • COVID-19 vaccination required.
