Job Title: Advancement Program Officer

Job Status: Full-time

Location: Mystic, CT

Salary:  $60,000 – $75,000


Purpose

Working closely with the Executive Director, the Advancement Program Officer provides leadership for the fundraising and marketing functions of Mystic Museum of Art (MMoA) to support institutional priorities. This is a position with strong possibility for promotion.

Primary Objectives

  • Leadership in developing and executing a well-developed and articulated annual giving and stewardship plan for growth in fundraising.
  • Support of and collaboration with MMoA staff team.
  • Effective evaluation of fundraising and marketing measures to guide future planning.
  • Effective and consistent communication with internal and external constituencies.
  • Preparation and support for the Board Advancement Committee.

Roles/Relationships

  • Responsible staff position that reports directly to the Executive Director.
  • Close collaboration with staff team on data management and event planning.
  • Staff leadership for Advancement Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Oversight of external marketing consultantation.
  • MMoA representative developing relationships with media, civic, and other external entities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Articulate vision for MMoA constituents (members, donors, prospects, Board members). Provide leadership in integrating fundraising and marketing functions in a coherent program to create, promote, and support a culture of philanthropy for MMoA donor base.

  • Provide oversight for and contribute to the development of marketing and social media strategies.
    • Ensure consistent high-quality communications (written, verbal, and visual), adapted to target audiences.
    • Identify and cultivate individuals to expand MMoA’s constituent base.
  • Annual fundraising plan will include
  • Membership: increase number and level of membership gifts.
  • Annual fund: build unrestricted operating support.
    • Increase unrestricted operating funds.
    • Increase individual prospect and donor base.
    • Apply to state agencies (CT Humanities and CT Office of the Arts).
  • Special project support
    • develop resources for special exhibitions and other projects.
    • Sponsorships and special fundraising events.
  • With Executive Director and Advancement Committee, design and implement major gifts and planned giving programs.
  • Work with Director of Visitor Services and Director of Finance to reconcile gift and grant data, provide reports as needed for staff and Board.
  • Continue to develop professional skills and understanding of philanthropy and museum management and their best practices.

 

Requirements

Qualifications

The Advancement Program Officer fills a highly sensitive and responsible role that requires professional judgement and discretion, a strong work ethic, superior communication and interpersonal skills, and unquestioned integrity.

  • College degree or equivalent years of practical experience. Education in the arts a plus.
  • Five to seven years of experience with increasing responsibility in nonprofit fundraising, and marketing.
  • Understanding of and commitment to fundraising and marketing best practices. Museum experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated interest in the arts and cultural sector preferred.
  • Experience in budget development.
  • Fluency with social media platforms and standards.
  • Experience with major gifts programs.
  • Ability to anticipate and allocate needed resources; plan for resource development as needed.
  • Experience with computer systems and related software (Microsoft Office suite and PastPerfect or other data management system) and equipment.
  • Proven written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse capacities with fellow employees, Board members, professional colleagues, and community members.

This is a full-time exempt position. Compensation commensurate with experience
