Description:
The Italian American Museum seeks an Education Intern to aid the staff in the development of upcoming offerings for the public audiences including schools and community groups. This internship provides an opportunity to participate in many aspects of museum education working in a small, dynamic department as we prepare to reopen. The intern’s primary responsibility will be to grow the IAM’s connection with schools and community groups in the tristate area, aiding in promotion and social media, and assisting with giving/coordinating walking tours of Little Italy. They will have the opportunity to work with primary sources and to work directly with the
Museum staff.
Requirements
The Italian American Museum Education Internship is open to current undergraduate and graduate students. Experience in one or more of the following fields is required: museum education; general education; American history; public history; customer service. Prior teaching experience in museums, schools, or similar learning environments is preferred. Candidates must be flexible, willing to work in teams, and able to take initiative.
Time Commitment
This internship may be compensated through course credit. Prospective applicants are responsible for coordinating any internship credit requirements with their advisors. Hours are flexible, Monday through Friday. Ideal candidates will be available at least 12 hours per week. The internship includes on-site work in Manhattan’s Little Italy to facilitate Walking Tours, and remote work as well.
