GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:

You will plan, facilitate and implement Family Programs for a wide range of audiences with colleagues from across the museum. You will contribute towards work with multigenerational audiences which provides activities and resources that inspire young people and adults to explore the Museum’s collection and their own creativity. You will contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of programs and demonstrate leadership within the department and cross-departmentally and contribute to the field of museum education.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES & DUTIES:

  • Advocate for family learning and engagement within the Museum, establishing and sustaining relationships with peers and strategic partners inside and outside the walls of the institution.
  • Develop and implement the strategy and pedagogy for high quality, high impact programs for youth audiences at The Met including Children’s Classes, family tours, drop-in programs and other programs related to family audiences.
  • Manage the 81st Street Studio space once it opens in summer 2023, including a team of staff, interns, and volunteers. Collaborate and communicate with staff across Education and the Museum to plan and manage the space.
  • Identify key audiences for programs and develop and implement effective engagement strategies to maximize visibility and reach to make The Met more accessible to a broader, more diverse audience. Develop marketing strategies for promoting family programs at The Met.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, oversee and track statistics, and mine data to identify participation trends and inform resource allocation and workflow. Prepare funding reports and other regular updates.
  • Oversee all logistics regarding implementation of programs, including overseeing contractual, travel-related, administrative, and financial requirements.
  • Identify evaluation and research priorities for programs; design and carry out studies; analyze and report on results, applying these to strategic program decisions.
  • Regularly teach in Family and Teen Programs as well as programs for a variety of audiences, including school groups and adults.
  • Train, and supervise interns and volunteers who support Family Programs to ensure high quality visitor experiences. Supervise, collaborate with, and evaluate contract educators.
  • Initiate and sustain productive relationships with colleagues in the Education Department and other departments across the Museum to leverage expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in museum education, art history, studio art, or related field.
  • 7 years of experience working in art museums, cultural institutions or other equivalent experience in family programming.
  • Demonstrated passion for family learning in art museums and knowledge of current theories and practices, programming, and informal learning related to these audiences.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with original works of art in a gallery setting for a variety of audiences, including family groups.
  • Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively and professionally with different constituencies, verbally and in writing. This includes: excellence in customer service, motivated and personable stance towards visitors and colleagues, and a demonstrable desire and ability to effectively engage with families and teens in the Museum.
  • Demonstrated management experience, including experience supervising staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills, diplomatic skills, ability to work collaboratively within and beyond the Museum, ability to tailor speech and writing to a variety of audiences and purposes, and to communicate effectively through a range of print and digital vehicles.

COMPENSATION RANGE:

  • Pay Range: $75,000 – $82,000
  • The advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role. The advertised pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage for any specific employee. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.

Location Requirements

At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
