The Wexner Center for the Arts, within the Office of Academic Affairs seeks a Teaching, Learning and Interpretation Coordinator. This position will be engaged in the teaching, learning, and interpretation initiatives in the Wexner Center’s Learning & Public Practice department, with a particular focus on the development and implementation of a range of museum education practices and administration, including research, arts and education partnerships, facilitation, and evaluation of teaching and learning programming in the galleries, at the university and in K-12 learning spaces. The Coordinator will assist in the development of resource materials and programming that intersects with contemporary art and cross-cultural topics, for the public, university, and K-12 audiences.
The Coordinator will report to the Teaching, Learning and Interpretation Manager, and serve on several interdepartmental working groups with colleagues across the Wexner Center for the Arts. In consultation with the Teaching, Learning, and Interpretation Manager, this position is responsible for supporting existing programs, research, and evaluation, and developing new programming where opportunities exist. Specific programmatic responsibilities may shift depending upon annual priorities set by the Teaching, Learning and Interpretation Manager and in collaboration with the Head of Learning & Public Practice and other staff members. Occasional evenings and weekends required.
Research and Programs Interpretation (35%)
Assists Teaching, Learning and Interpretation Manager to develop and implement long-term strategies for interpretation. Assists with projects in collaboration with curators and educators, as well as with other colleagues across the center. Assists in the development of learning resources and assists in all aspects of research, teaching, learning, and public, university, and school programming, including outreach and engagement. Duties include assisting with the creation of learning materials and administration of education programs for public, university and school audiences, including assisting in developing learning materials for universities and schools; outreach initiatives; and teaching in the galleries and in K-12 settings. The Coordinator will lead tours and gallery experiences; assist in developing education and interpretive content, engage with K-12 students and educators, and with faculty and university students. Coordinator will assist in research and writing; evaluation and statistical data management strategies; and other duties as assigned intersecting with programming, exhibition content, interpretation, architecture, and teaching and learning.
K-12 Partnerships (20%)
Assist in the development, implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of programs for students and teachers in K-12 settings and learning environments. Build and maintain relationships with regional school districts/educators/home school programs. Engage with Wexner Center artist residencies, including intersecting with artist visits to the Center and schools, assisting with community-based artist workshops, and assisting with connecting visiting artists with opportunities for K-12 students and educators.
University Collaborations (20%)
Establish and sustain relationships and collaborations with faculty, staff and students across the University, including assisting in the development of work that strengthens the support of university courses and initiatives.
Outreach and Engagement (15%)
In collaboration with the Teaching, Learning and Interpretation Manager, assists with the implementation and facilitation of student engaged activities. Assists with program opportunities for faculty and students. Develops and implements ongoing outreach and engagement with faculty and students.
Special Projects (10%)
Specific programmatic responsibilities will shift depending upon annual priorities set by the Head of Learning & Public Practice in collaboration with other staff members. Additional miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned by the Head of Learning & Public Practice.
Qualifications
Degree in or supplemented by study in Education, Art Education, Museum Studies, or related field appropriate to the position. Equivalent of education and experience will also be considered. Strong organizational, teaching, communication, and customer service skills required. Strong research and writing skills required. Desire and ability to work collaboratively. Proven experience in working with the public. Experience working with youths is a plus. Professional experience in a museum, nonprofit, learning setting, or similar environment required. Interest in or familiarity with the arts, including visual, film, or performance preferred. Candidate must be able to demonstrate a commitment to and proficiency in diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion practices. This position is hands-on and public facing with job responsibilities that include work onsite and in the community. Some in-state travel required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products strongly preferred, including Excel; excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented and accurate; ability to foresee, evaluate, and respond effectively to complex circumstances and conditions; a willingness to troubleshoot and problem solve; strong initiative and organizational skills; a demonstrated customer service mindset and collaborative style of work; proven ability to manage multiple time-critical priorities and projects.
