Description

The Public Programs Coordinator works in close coordination with the Manager of Public Programs to research, envision, execute and support the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco’s Educational initiatives. This position assists with the planning, organizing, coordinating, reporting, researching, and budgeting for public programs, specifically the Lifelong Learning and Art Enthusiasts series as well as community engagement initiatives. Assists with the maintenance of financial and statistical reports and records. Serves as liaison with internal and external colleagues, developing collaborative relationships and growing awareness of education and public programs initiatives. Duties include: planning, organizing, assisting with production of and reporting for designated education programs.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides coordination services to the Manager of Public Programs and the Director of Public Programs and Community Engagement.
  2. Works closely with Manager of Public Programs and Director of Public Programs and Community Engagement on administrative tasks related to Lifelong Learning and Art Enthusiasts series as well as community engagement initiatives.
  3. Communicates with museum staff about upcoming programs, reserving rooms and distributing operations and AV requests in a timely manner.
  4. Under the direction of the Manager of Public Programs, supports the upkeep of weekly program materials and monthly division credit card reconciliation process.
  5. Assists with compiling public program information for external communications: members guides, brochures, website, electronic signage, etc.
  6. Works closely with the Marketing + Communications Department to maximize attendance results.
  7. Under the direction of the Director of Public Programs and Community Engagement or the Manager of Public Programs works with collaborating partners.
  8. Schedules community advisor meetings, both virtual and in person, including note taking, recordkeeping, and organizing captions to meet access needs.
  9. Orders supplies for programs as needed.
  10. Provides onsite support for all public programs events. Additional support for off-site and special events as needed.
  11. Provides general administrative duties as needed.
  12. Works with Education staff on special projects as assigned.
  13. Supports the production of the annual education wrap report.

 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: BA in art, art history, or related field.

Work Experience: Two years of experience coordinating museum programs for a large arts organization.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of art and museums.
  • Demonstrated abilities in collaborating with local community organizations.
  • Demonstrated abilities in visual arts programming.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Researching, public speaking, and computer skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated abilities to organize and be resourceful.

Work schedule:

  • Tuesday – Saturday, 40 hours per week.
  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days per week working remotely and at least three days per week onsite at the de Young and Legion of Honor. The work schedule will be determined in agreement between the employee and their supervisor.

Step 1 – Start of the pay range is $26.31 per hour.
