Position Summary
The Web and Database Developer oversees all development, implementation, testing, upgrades and maintenance for the Clark’s website, dynamic web applications and database systems that further the mission of the Clark Art Institute. This position is responsible for development of the current web and database infrastructure as well as for identifying, developing and maintaining a long-range plan for sustainable web and database systems; assists staff in exploring ideas that will enhance teaching, learning, research, communication, and administrative support through the use of databases and dynamic web applications; designs interfaces for core services and applications; coordinates and implements user-friendly navigation methods and appropriate information architecture.
Minimum Starting Salary: $68,000 annually
Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Develop and maintain Clark website, including on-going updates to all aspects of the site; work closely with Digital Content Editor to manage wide variety of programming needs; maintain liaison relationship with outside web consultants to provide continuing enhancements and ensure functionality
- On-call 24 hour/day responsibility for all website needs, including emergency messaging and immediate updates.
- Create new microsites in support of every special exhibition (average 7-10 per year).
- Develop, update, and maintain special exhibition microsites for every exhibition. Coordinate with Communications Specialist and Digital Content Editor to schedule and manage content submissions, images, and all related support materials. Collaborate with curatorial and publications department to establish and manage development schedule for each site and ensure delivery of live, finished microsites prior to the exhibition opening.
- Work with IT Department to coordinate and manage supporting databases and related programs to maximize functionality of the Clark’s website, including ticketing, interactive applications, video, and library search functions.
- Develop custom applications and related materials to support the objectives of individual departmental needs for website sections.
- Provide support to curatorial and IT departments for eMuseum and TMS program issues related to website interface as needed.
- Work with all departments to train and assist in ensuring that they are able to regularly update all sections of the website.
- Ensure that the website has a consistent look, up-to-date information, and user-friendly navigation.
- Responsible for overseeing all system and security-related issues for the website and related support databases. Work in collaboration with the IT department to identify, manage, and solve all on-line security issues.
- Responsible for the development, management, implementation, and maintenance of computer-based interactive projects for the website and for in-gallery experiences.
- Work on multi-departmental teams to evaluate and recommend future web and database initiatives.
- Develop and maintain accessible archives of microsites and appropriate webpages (press releases, RAP lectures, etc).
- Keep apprised of current and new technologies.
- Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a long-range plan for sustainable and secure web and database systems.
- Provide oversight and assistance for e-commerce site in collaboration with the Museum Store, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
