The American Museum of Natural History seeks a Digital Technical Lead to provide the Communications department with organizational support for digital properties in the areas of front-end application development, including CMS technical support, mobile applications, email, and other product deliverables as needed. In addition, the Digital Technical Lead will support the Communications departments and third-party vendors on technical tasks, provides QA support and test design for digital products, advise on software and platform strategies, and assist in other technical activities on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop front-end web application code and support existing application code across digital products which include JavaScript, HTML, CSS, related library (jQuery), and frameworks (Bootstrap) support
  • Provide technical support and guidance for best practices in application architecture
  • Serve as a department point of contact for application (and mobile application) information
  • Advise/perform customizations on software and related platforms such as Google Analytics / GA4, Google Tag Manager, XCode, the compiling of digital products, Firebase, and additional emerging platforms
  • Assist in CMS-related tasks and internal/external users in the configuration of proposed software or systems
  • Coordinate appropriate access to internal systems and provide first-tier support
  • Oversee the third-party developer’s contributions and ensure adherence to technical standards
  • Fulfill change requests to optimize various sites and templates across digital properties, including but not limited to www.amnh.org

The expected salary range for the Digital Technical Lead is $65,000 – 78,000. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience providing general front-end application development and support (customer-facing and code-level support)
  • Functional testing experience
  • Familiarity with digital application architecture
  • Basic understanding of code versioning (Git), and best practices for code development, testing, and maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with SASS, Google Optimize, mobile SDK development, RESTful APIs
  • Basic *nix (Linux, Unix) knowledge
