Job Title: Collections Registrar

Description

The Morgan Library & Museum invites applications for the position of Collections Registrar who is responsible for managing records and performing registration tasks for the Morgan’s permanent collection as well as the safety, long-term care, and security of those collections. The incumbent manages the movement and storage of the collection on and off-site, including overseeing and coordinating all activity relating to the Morgan’s outgoing loans program and processing incoming acquisitions.

This position assists with institutional planning, budgeting, and implementation of policies and procedures relating to the collection. The Collections Registrar ensures that policies are in line with museum best practices and are up to date at all times and works to improve the data fidelity in the Morgan’s collections databases. This role reports to the Director of Exhibition and Collection Management and works collaboratively with colleagues across the Museum.

Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies, Arts Administration or closely related field or professional experience equivalent; Master’s Degree in Museum Studies, Arts or Non-profit Administration or related field a plus.
  • 7–10 years of museum registration experience with loans and collections, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in fine art collections management including the handling, care, preservation, installation, and storage of art, registration methods, electronic collection records, special exhibitions and loan administration, and fine arts insurance and indemnity.
  • Must be familiar with international/domestic fine art shipping/crating companies, international crating standards and TSA shipping and screening requirements.
  • Excellent computer skills with a command of the Microsoft Office Suite. Strong proficiency with Excel spreadsheets and/or Google Sheets. Experience using The
  • Museum System (TMS), power user beneficial.
  • Keen organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Diplomatic and clear communicator; enjoys working with teams in a collaborative fashion. Has the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with museum staff, vendors, artists, donors, and representatives of borrowing or lending museums.
  • Quantitative skills to manage and track budgets.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage time to prioritize tasks in order of importance to meet deadlines.
  • Adaptable to changes in schedule over the life of a project and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Knowledge of additional languages is beneficial.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekend hours.
  • May be required for courier travel domestically and internationally.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Must be able to move about the work area, between galleries and storage areas, ascend and descend stairs, and stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekend hours.
  • Must complete Security Threat Assessment application for TSA.
Compensation: 

$75,000 to $80,000; excellent benefits.
