Salary: $45,000- $55,000

Description

Department of Photography, Yale University Art Gallery

This is a full-time, one-year fellowship, with the possibility of renewal for a second year, intended for an emerging professional considering a curatorial career.

Reporting to the Richard Benson Associate Curator of Photography and Digital Media and working closely with colleagues across the Gallery and the University, the Fellow will be fully integrated into the Department of Photography and will gain broad, hands-on experience with photographic collections in an academic museum. The Fellow provides organizational, teaching, and project support related to the Gallery’s photography collection; responds to queries about the collection; and interacts with scholars, students, and the public on matters concerning the collection. Responsibilities include coordinating faculty requests for teaching with photographs, managing and overseeing class visits utilizing photographs from the collection in a busy study room; and serving as the primary liaison between the Photography department and faculty teaching from the collection, all while ensuring the special care, security, and proper user handling of the collection. The Fellow also assists with special exhibitions and permanent gallery installations, cataloguing new acquisitions using The Museum System (TMS), preparing the published list of departmental acquisitions in the annual Bulletin, conducting essential research, and other duties as assigned.

Successful candidates will have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, well-developed research and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to communicate with colleagues and the public in a knowledgeable and professional manner. We welcome and encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, especially those from traditionally underrepresented groups in the museum field.
