Job Title: Development Associate
Reports to: Executive Director
Work Locations: Queens, New York and Part-time remote
Compensation: 45 – 55K plus benefits
Position Summary:
The Development Associate supports LAHM’S individual, corporate, foundation and government funding efforts. They are responsible for working with the Executive Director, LAHM staff and strategic consultants to help meet
and exceed the annual revenue goals – currently a $2 million annual budget and a multi-million endowment campaign as LAHM prepares to open a new, state-of-the-art building.
The Development Associate’s responsibilities include:
- developing and implementing annual campaigns and membership drives
- maintaining the donor database
- drafting grant application materials, reports and donor correspondence
- monitoring and meeting grant deadlines
- planning and supporting events
- conducting prospect research and setting up prospect meetings
- supporting communications efforts
As a front-facing staff member, the Development Associate also learns and shares the legacy of Louis and Lucille Armstrong for museum visitors, donors and constituents. The Development Associate reports to the Executive Director.
We are looking for someone who is collaborative and meticulous. Ideal qualifications include:
- Bachelors degree
- Three+ years of work experience in development or related field
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
- Willingness to take initiative and able to work independently as well as with a team
- Ability to manage/prioritize concurrent processes/projects, and focus on the small but important details while keeping the bigger picture in mind
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Google Drive and experience working with, or willing to learn, a customer relations management database – Altru
- Knowledge of jazz, civil rights, and Louis Armstrong as an American icon is a plus
Hours: 40 hours per week (Full Time) Monday– Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Accommodating to weekend and evening events, as needed. A portion of the week may be conducted remotely.
Compensation: $45,000 – $55,000 Commensurate to experience. LAHM provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
