The Position:
Over the past two years, the Jewish Museum has been conducting virtual tours of current and past exhibitions for an international audience. We are seeking additional per diem educators to primarily conduct virtual tours for adult groups, however, some on-site gallery teaching opportunities may also be available. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Education & Programs, the adult group tour educators will conduct lectures on a range of topics with a special focus on modern and contemporary art. The ideal candidate possesses the interpersonal skills to teach diverse audiences and the ability to conduct art historical research and prepare PowerPoint presentations independently.
Responsibilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, museum education, or related field, master’s preferred
- Deep knowledge of art history
- Knowledge of modern and contemporary art
- Five or more years related experience working in museums and/or teaching art history
- Strong verbal skills, dynamic educator
- Flexibility in adapting to the needs of diverse audiences
- Reliability
Requirements:
- Experience working as a lecturer in an art museum or university setting
- Comfort teaching on Zoom with Power Point presentations (for virtual teaching) and/or experience teaching in a museum with original works of art (for onsite teaching)
- A flexible schedule, with Sunday, weekday, and evening availability preferred
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a Center for Disease Control (CDC) or World Health Organization (WHO) authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to qualified disability or sincerely held religious belief or other legal basis)
