Summary: Develop diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive interpretive materials and experiences related to the Museum’s collection and exhibitions. Collaborate with the Head of Engagement and Interpretation, curators, designers, and other staff across the institution to create interpretive approaches that spark curiosity, grow connections between people and communities, and celebrate the power of art. Research and develop content for a wide range of platforms and visitor experiences and assist with the evaluation of these experiences and the communication of outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research works of art, art history, and related fields to inform interpretive projects
- Partner with curators during the early stages of exhibition and installation projects to take a visitor-centered approach that includes crafting Big Ideas and visitor outcomes, identifying and generating plans for addressing potentially sensitive topics and issues in an inclusive way, and developing innovative new approaches to interpreting art
- Work closely with multiple internal stakeholders to develop interpretive plans and produce gallery interpretive content including text, wall graphics, print visitor guides and brochures, and maps that are accessible, inclusive, and engaging to diverse public audiences
- Collaborate with the Head of Engagement and Interpretation, Chief Diversity Officer, curators, and outside experts, as appropriate, to develop a process for assessing interpretive materials through a DEAI lens and adjusting as a result of ongoing assessments
- Ensure institutional style and approach are upheld across interpretive materials
- Manage interpretive project deadlines for exhibitions, installations, and rotations
- Originate ideas for and manage projects related to visitor engagement opportunities such as our collection gallery Connect Labs, our main exhibition Explore Lab, and other seasonal visitor-directed gallery experiences
- Collaborate with Head of Engagement and Interpretation on monthly cross-institution interpretive meetings including setting agendas, confirming guest speakers, researching peer-institution best practices for discussion topics, and taking notes; lead these meetings on occasion
- Design and execute formative and summative evaluation opportunities and create visitor surveys; present assessments for Ticketed Exhibitions and apply findings to future projects
- Perform administrative tasks related to departmental projects including tracking departmental statistics, drafting external contracts, submitting internal requests, and representing the department at recurring meetings
- Communicate object and gallery information to Museum staff and volunteers
- Assist with digital interpretation projects and docent training, resources, and tours as needed
Qualifications: One to three years of relevant experience for Assistant position and three+ years for Associate position. Demonstrated excellence in written communication including editing and proofreading; exceptional verbal communication skills and demonstrated capacity to effectively and professionally communicate with a wide range of constituents; superior time management and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple, logistically complex activities simultaneously. Likewise, the ability to develop strong working relationships with internal and external partners and the ability to produce creative ideas to solve problems and engage diverse visitors through equitable, accessible, and inclusive experiences are crucial to success in this role.

Minimum of Hiring Range: Assistant: $18.84/ hour. Associate: $54,661/annually.
Status: Regular full-time, Benefits eligible on first day of employment.
