Position Summary:
The Museum Collections Manager is responsible for ensuring the overall safety, preservation, maintenance, and documentation for works in the Housatonic Museum of Art’s (HMA) collection, on view, in storage, and on loan. Duties include receiving, preparing and cataloguing new acquisitions; planning and organizing exhibition-related movement of objects, including packing, shipping and insurance for collection exhibitions as well as for incoming and outgoing loans to/from the HMA; managing the database of collections contents and photography of the collection; managing rights and reproduction.
Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in art, art history or museum studies with one (1) or more years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.
Successful Candidate must have or must possess:
- Experience using museum database systems such as PastPerfect or TMS
- Knowledge of art and art history with ability to identify specific styles and periods of art
- Experience with project management and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies or related discipline
- Three (3) years of museum registration and/or collections management
- Knowledge of professionally accepted collections management practices and procedures including art handling, storage methods and basic conservation
Example of Job Duties:
Under the direction of Director and Chief Curator, the Museum Collections Manager is accountable for all aspects of collections care, following and implementing best practices in the museum profession including maintaining catalogue records; maintaining the HMA’s collections database; Creating and/or maintaining documentation related to incoming and outgoing loans.
In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Starting Salary:
Anticipated Salary; $42,942 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
