Job Title: Museum Educator

Position Overview:
Westchester Children’s Museum Outreach program of the Westchester Children’s Museum, makes our hands-on programming available to as many children as possible by leaving the walls of the Westchester Children’s Museum and visiting them in their own learning environments. The Westchester Children’s Museum is searching for an enthusiastic and creative individual to assist with this program. This individual should have a passion for elementary and middle school education and be interested in bringing the Museum’s unique interactive STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, Math) activities directly to schools, camps, and community centers throughout Westchester County.
Responsibilities:
- Independently command the attention of around twenty Pre-K through middle school students for an hour or more to lead them through a variety of STREAM based programs
- Ability to inspire curiosity and creativity in young learners
- Prepare materials for activities, programs and events based on the current curriculum
- Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with community partners and program collaborators
- Work closely with the Museum’s Outreach Coordinator/Manager to research and develop new lesson plans as the museum continues to grow and develop
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching in a youth-orientated classroom or informal learning environment
- Experience interacting with families of young children, school groups, and a diverse community of learners
- Upbeat and positive attitude, with an enthusiasm for the Westchester Children’s Museum and for ensuring excellent and memorable experiences for museum guests
- Ability and desire to learn new tasks and concepts quickly
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to kneel, walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time; ability to lift and maneuver up to 30 pounds into/out of your car and into a facility
- Must have your own transportation to travel to the various educational sites in Westchester County
- Pursuing a degree in Education or Teaching Certification; Education degree, a plus
- Background in STREAM based teaching, a plus
Time Commitment:
- This is a flexible part-time position in which the hours will vary and allows for other part-time or freelance jobs
- Occasional weekend-work
- Additional opportunities available to work field trips (Monday and Tuesday mornings) as well as work on the Museum floor as a Museum Experience Facilitator(Wednesdays – Sundays)
